This week’s kitchen and decor deals are so ripe, I almost had to pull out my fruit picker to scoop you the best selection of titanium cookware, Bauhaus teapots, and Japanese snack box deals. Last week, we celebrated 4/20 and Easter with deals on Edie Parker’s aspic-inspired tabletop lighters, up to 50 percent off whistling Le Creuset kettles at Williams Sonoma, and a chic water carafe for hosting — or, my personal favorite: forcing myself to drink more water via the appeal of a beautiful vessel. Today’s deals offer up an equally delightful (if not more diverse) selection of items…

PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta said the snacking giant will be “accelerating” its transition to natural ingredients amid increasing consumer demand and pressure from the White House to remove artificial colors from foods. Laguarta said during PepsiCo’s first-quarter earnings call with analysts on Thursday that the Cheetos and Doritos maker plans to have transitioned “all the portfolio into natural colors or at least provide the consumer with natural color options” in the next “couple years.” Still, he underscored that PepsiCo’s chips, puffs and other snacks are safe and the company stands by the existing science.  “Every consumer will have the…

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Tuesday that it will phase out petroleum-based synthetic dyes by the end of next year. “For the last 50 years, American children have increasingly been living in a toxic soup of synthetic chemicals,” FDA Commissioner Marty Makary said at a press conference, per CNBC. The latest initiative is part of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s ongoing efforts to “Make America Healthy Again.” At this time, the FDA and food companies — including PepsiCo, General Mills, Mars and WK Kellogg — don’t have a formal agreement to remove artificial dyes,…

Restaurants worth visiting again and againSometimes I have to remind myself that I don’t eat like everyone else. The average person, maybe even the average New Yorker, might go to the same restaurants over and over again, throwing in a new dining spot every few months.I am in perpetual pursuit of novelty. And, my dear readers, I’d love to move you in my direction. Outside my comfort zone, I’ve discovered new favorites and developed a far more discerning palate. I’m not so easily impressed anymore, and I’m a better diner for it.A good place to start your journey to enlightenment?…

BlaufränkischThis is a wonderful grape capable of making wines that range from simply delicious to profound and contemplative. The key from the production standpoint is to treat the grapes gently — the best don’t try to make a powerful, tannic wine or load it up with oak. At its finest it’s graceful yet intense, more pinot noir than cabernet sauvignon. Great producers abound in astern Austria — look for Moric, Meinklang, Gut Oggau, Markus Altenburger, Heinrich, Judith Beck, Rosi Schuster and Straka in Burgenland and Dorli Muhr in Carnuntum. From time to time, I see blaufränkisch from elsewhere, like Germany,…

There are many ways to make a martini. Shaken or stirred. Vodka or gin. Wet, dry, bone-dry. But no matter how you make it, few, if any, have the cult following that the dirty martini has right now: There are $195 kits, hats and some variation of the cocktail on restaurant and bar menus everywhere. The only problem? Between the gin — or vodka — and vermouth, this extremely drinkable cocktail is a heavy, boozy hitter — but it doesn’t have to be. To lower your dirty martini’s oft formidable potency, without sacrificing any of its signature brininess, flip the classic…

If you’re more of a bowl gal, Ali’s spinach and feta lentil bowl is ideal for packing up in a bento-style box and tossing together when you’re ready to eat. Pro tip: Keep a nice ceramic bowl at your desk. It really makes the experience of eating on the clock a little more bearable. “I’m a college student, and I’d love a breakfast/lunch recipe that’s easy to meal-prep, practical to eat on the go, and packs enough protein to keep me full throughout my morning lectures.” — RebecaWhile the above recipes for Lauren certainly apply here, I’m going to throw…

“So, no blonde fries,” says chef David Viana of the platonic ideal of disco fries. “It can’t be mushy. The gravy has to slap. And some people say you can’t have too much cheese, but if it gets too heavy, it actually makes it stick together too much.” As a self-described “Jersey boy,” Viana takes his disco fries seriously. If you grew up outside of the northeast, you may have no idea what he’s talking about. While loaded fries or cheese fries are common enough, disco fries — fries topped with brown gravy and shredded cheese — are specific enough…
